Density 3.16-3.20
Color Grass green.
Habitus Ortorombic. Usually prismatic crystals with square cross section. Also as massive aggregates.
Cleavage Distinct prismatic, fracture uneven to subconchoidal.
Luster Vitreous.
Description A manganian andalusite.
Occurance In metamorphic rock as schist, quartzite and sometimes in pegmatites and hydrothermal veins.
Associates In pegmatites with korund, turmaline, topas.
Notes Polymorphs : Kyanite and Sillimanite
Locations
  • Västanå iron mine, Skåne. As cm sized green spots in a quartzite.
  • Ultevis area (mainly Tjatitsvare). As up to 5cm long crystals and aggregates in thin veins of pegmatite.
