Habitus Prismatic crystals with vertical striation. Also as grainy aggregates.

Cleavage Poor.

Luster Vitreous to dull.

Description

Occurance In contact metamorphic limestones.

Associates Garnet, Diopside, Vesuvian.

Notes Often orange yellow flourescens.
Soluble in hydrochloric acid.

Locations A common in many limestone quarries in Sweden.

Lindbo limestone quarry, Västanfors, Västmanland. As small crystals.
Malsjö limestone quarry, Grums, Värmland. Commonly as derb and crystals.
Hönsarvsberget limestone quarry, Borlänge, Dalarna. Up to 5 cm crystals.
Malmberget, Gällivare, Lappland.
Forsby limestone quarry, south of Hjälmaren.
Stora Vika limestone quarry, Södermanland.
Innansjön, Burträsk, Västerbotten. As purple aggregates in limestone.
