Habitus	Long elogated needlelike crystals in radiating groups or fibric aggregates.
Cleavage	Good cleavage, uneven fracture.

Density	4.3-4.4
Color	Black.
Streak	Reddish brown to black.
Luster	Submetallic.
Description
Occurance	Forms in low temperature hydrothermal veins. Also formed in marine deposits and lakes.
Associates
Notes	Soluble in hydrochloric acid with emission of chlorine.
Locations	Mangaite exists i one good locality in Sweden. Bölet manganese mine, Undenäs, Västergötland. As druses of black crystal needles with calcite, baryte and flourite. Spexaryd manganese mine, Jönköping. In small amounts. Långban and other manganese mines in Värmland. Sometimes found in small amounts.
