Habitus As coatings, plates and balls. Rarely as octaedric crystals.
Cleavage None, malleable.

Color Gray, but often black of tarnish.
Streak Gray metallic.
Luster Metallic on fresh surfaces, else dull.
Description  
Occurance Created under reducing conditions in mangan ores.
Associates Mangan minerals.
Notes Easily dissolved in nitric acid.
Locations
  • Långban, Värmland. An internationally famous location. Pieces of lead up to 15 kg and crystals up to 4 cm have been found here.
    In cracks in dolomite, mangan scarn and ore. Often together with pyrochroite, hydrocerrusite and cerrusite.
  • Jakobsberg, Värmland.
  • Harstigen, Persberg, Värmland.
    • Crystals in holes in garnet-schefferite scarn together with baryte, brandtit, calcite, svabite, hematite, litargite and cerrusite.
    • Crackfillings in haussmannite dotted dolomite, thin coverings with tefroite.
  • Pajsberg, Persberg, Värmland.
  • Sjögruvan, Persberg, Värmland.
