Luster Vitreous.
Description A common zeolite with a lot of localities with nice crystals.
Occurance Formed in volcanic rocks, basalts and andesites. Also in ore veins as hydrothermal formations. Rarely in schist and dolomites.
Associates Other zeolites, nepheline, pyroxenes, amphiboles, epidote, calcite.
Notes Named after the ancient Greek word for stone, chabazios.
Localities A mineral with several good localities in Scandinavia.

Sweden :

  • Svappavaara, Lappland. As nice colorless to red almost cubic crystals in cavities in the rocks.
  • Fridhem mine, Gällivare. Together with stilbite in drusy quartz.
  • Malmberget. Together with scapolite in druses.
  • Långban, Värmland. In druses with scapolite and stilbite.

Norway :

  • Langselv mine, near Arendal. In druses in ore and scarn.
  • Årvoll, Oslo. In miarolitic cavities in nordmarkite.

Finland : (Sorry if the names are messed up, but I don't speak Finnish)

  • Laurinoja, Kolari. In drusy parts of the iron mine as beige cubic crystals up to 1 cm. Some fluorescent green in UV light.
