Crystal system	Hexagonal.
Habitus	Hexagonal prisms, often with flat terminations. Sometimes also massive.
Cleavage	Indistinct, uneven to conchoidal fracture.
Hardness	7.5-8
Density	2.65-2.90
Color	Grayish whit, yellowish to greenish. Rarely as blue, pink, yellow, green and red.
Streak	White.
Luster	Vitreous to dull, transparent to translucent.
Description
Occurance	In pegmatites or granites. Also in greisen occurances and some metamorphic schists.
Associates	Tourmaline, Chrysoberyl in rocks poor in quartz.
Notes	Fuses with difficulty, roundening the edges of small fragments. Precious stone varietys of beryl is : Emerald : Green. Morganite : Pink. Heliodor : Yellow. Aquamarine : Blue. Bixbite : Red. Goshenite : Colorless.
Locations	A common mineral in a number of pegmatites. Ultevis, Lappland. Commonly in pegmatites in the area. Sörhällan quartz quarry, Råneå, Norrbotten. 2 tons have been mined. Varuträsk, Västerbotten. Up to 20 cm long crystals. Abborselet, Nyhem, Jämtland. As small well developed crystals. Selsvitberget, Bollstabruk, Ångermanland. As up to 2 m long crystals. Hoting quartz quarry, Ångermanland. Nice crystals together with schorl. Högsbo quartz quarry, Göteborg. 3 tons have been mined. Kårarvet and Finnbo, Falun, Dalarna. Crystals up to 20 cm in diameter. Reboda, Guldsmedshyttan, Västmanland. Commonly. Perstorp quartz quarry, Godegård, Östergötland. 55 tons have been mined. Ytterklippen, Bjurholm, Ångermanland. Commonly as well formed crystals in quartz.
