Innansjön limestone quarry.

DESCRIPTION

Innansjön is an old lime stone quarry. There have been great dump piles, but now the most have been crushed down to gravel. There are still a number of boulders in the area and many minerals is still possible to find in nice samples.
The quarry is located in Västerbotten near the village Burträsk, or more accurately east of the village Innansjön.

VISITS

I visited this quarry a number of times during the summer of 1997. It started with a few findings of the more common minerals as calcite, tremolite, diopside, titanite and serpentine. After some more trips the list have grown with dolomite and scapolite.

Mineral assemblage

Mineral assemblage Aktinolite, Albite, Anortite, Apatite, Biotite (sericite), brucite (not verified), bytownite, Calcite, Chalcopyrite, Chondrodite, Clinozoisit-Pistazit, Clorite, Crysotile, Diopside, Dolomite, Epidote, Flogopite, Forsterite?, Garnet, Goetite, Graphite, Hornblende, Humite, Ilmenite, Magnetite, Microclin, Molybdenite, Molybdoscheelite, Oligoclas, Oligoklas, Periklin, Plagioclas, Pyrite, Quartz, Rutil, Scapolite ( meionite ), Scheelite, Sericite, Serpentinite, Spinell, Talc, Titanite, Tremolite, Vesuvian, Wollastonite, Zircon,

Dolomite

Dolomite in a matrix of calcite. The dolomite is easily seen in this rock, since it have been weathered and the dolomite stands out as light yellow crystals.
Collected in 1997.

Titanite

Black titanite crystals with green diopside and quartz. There is some calcite to the left, reflecting the light.
Collected in 1997.
(300 dpi, 800x600, k)
Tremolite

A nice lightgreen piece of tremolite in calcite. It's surface looks as it's been made from silk.
This piece was a total surprice. When I was removing a smaller stuff from the side of a boulder I attacked it in a small crack a few centimeters from the stuff. When the rock came loos I bent it free from the boulder and it landed in my hand with this side up.
Collected in 1997.
(300 dpi, 800x600, k)
Scapolite

Scapolite. It is said that it should be of the meionite type in this locality.
Collected in 1997.
(300 dpi, 800x600, k)
Serpentinite

A nice piece of dark green serpentinite. To the right is also some calcite.
Collected in 1997.
(200 dpi, 800x600, k)
Rock crystal

A nice example of quartz crystals in calcite. This is one of the ways quartz occurs in Innansjön.
As a gift from Jorge Alves in 1998.
(300 dpi, 800x600, k)
Calcite

Calcite crystals on a host rock also made up of calcite.
As a gift from Jorge Alves in 1998.
(200 dpi, 800x600, k)
Chondrodite

Chondrodite in calcite.
The chondrodite doesn't show any crystal surfaces.
Collected in 1997.
