VISITS98-06-23 My second visit didn't took too long. It was during the Bergslagen tour with Västerbottens Amatör Geologer. As a guide we had Ingemar Johansson and he really impressed me. When we walked away from the dump pile he dived in between some rocks and hauled up a rock full of monazite crystals. He then divided it between us all. There was also some euxenite in the rock, but it was easier to divide because few wanted something to do with radioactive material. | ||

Two red andalusite crystals in feldspar and mica. It came together with some euxenite in the feldspar. The crystals occurs in great numbers up to 10 cm long. Collected 98-05-17 (300 dpi, 800x600, k) |
Andalusite crystals in feldspar and biotite. It seems to me that the andalusite occurs mainly together with different mica minerals, preferably together with biotite or the finegrained mica mixture. From the same rock as above. Collected 98-05-17 (300 dpi, 800x600, k) |
Andalusite crystals in feldspar. The crystals are squarish prismatic, but the edges are not so well defined. Collected 1998 (300 dpi, 800x600, k) |
Euxenite in feldspar. Notice the radiac damaged areas around the euxenite grains. Collected 98-05-17 (300 dpi, 800x600, k) |
The euxenite lies in the border between feldspar and the mica. Collected 98-05-17 (300 dpi, 800x600, k) |
Two more small samples of euxenite. One in feldspar, the other in mica. Collected 98-05-17 (300 dpi, 800x600, k) |
Monazite as small irregular brown grains in quartz. Collected 98-05-17 (300 dpi, 800x600, k) |
Monazite crystal in the borderzone between feldspar and quartz. It seems that monazite grows on feldspar and then is embedded in quartz at a later stage. Crystal sice 1.5x1 cm across. The rest is in another rock I'm saving for the long dark winter nights. Collected 98-06-23 (200 dpi, 800x600, k) |
