VISITS

98-05-17 My first visit here was together with Allan Ekberg, Västerås. It was on the way back from the annual meeting with the Swedish federation of amateur geologists in Kopparberg. When we drove in on the small dirt road, we were met by four cars coming the other way! It was some of the other people from Kopparberg, also looking for some interesting minerals. We all went to the pegmatite, and soon people started to find andalusite, euxenite and monazite. Some of us took samples of feldspar with regulary ordered quartz crystals, commonly known as graphic granite. (Skriftgranit in Swedish)
98-06-23 My second visit didn't took too long. It was during the Bergslagen tour with Västerbottens Amatör Geologer. As a guide we had Ingemar Johansson and he really impressed me. When we walked away from the dump pile he dived in between some rocks and hauled up a rock full of monazite crystals. He then divided it between us all. There was also some euxenite in the rock, but it was easier to divide because few wanted something to do with radioactive material.

Andalusite
Two red andalusite crystals in feldspar and mica. It came together with some euxenite in the feldspar.
The crystals occurs in great numbers up to 10 cm long.

Andalusite
Andalusite crystals in feldspar and biotite. It seems to me that the andalusite occurs mainly together with different mica minerals, preferably together with biotite or the finegrained mica mixture.

Monazite as small irregular brown grains in quartz.

Monazite crystal in the borderzone between feldspar and quartz.
It seems that monazite grows on feldspar and then is embedded in quartz at a later stage.
Crystal sice 1.5x1 cm across. The rest is in another rock I'm saving for the long dark winter nights.
