DESCRIPTIONThere are two quarries on the Balberget. Both have been driven for feldspar but are abandoned today. There are some planes of making a mineral track, describing the different minerals in the mountain, but I think it's been delayed.

VISITS1998 My first visit to the eastern quarry. I made it together with Jorge Alves. After an hour or two we summarised the results. A few pieces of feldspar (one crystal) and some smoky quartz in gemmy quality was all we had found. The concluded that the quarry wasn't so interesting. We never saw any traces of the reported columbite. | ||

A deep weathered rock type, consisting of two different minerals. One have weathered down to one cm depth, while the other remains as a grid with the surface polished by the ice age. I don't know what this is for a rock type. Collected 1995. (300 dpi, 800x600, k) |

I fount a funny looking stone in the western quarry of the Balberget. It consists of a number of biotite blades that's grown together in a formation looking as a crystal. The truth is that the sides consits of biotite and the center is filled by feldspar and quartz. Collected 1998. (300 dpi, 800x600, k) |
